Ssangyong Rexton Rama, 181 HP, and 4×4 diesel will work well in the field. On asphalt, you can also expect good handling, though …
Although the importer SsangYong has been located in Poland for many years and offers several interesting models (Tivoli, XLV, Korando), it is difficult to achieve a sales level similar to other Korean brands. Even reasonable prices or a 5-year warranty do not encourage you to buy. There is a chance that this will change, because, at the end of 2017, another new model was added to the offer: the fourth-generation Rexton. This nearly 5-meter SUV will compete with the Ford Edge, Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia Sorento, or Toyota Land Cruiser. Like the latter, it has a rarely used solution – frame structure. The drive is also unique in this car, but more on that later.
Luxury and plenty of space
Anyone who expects to find low-quality materials or outdated technical solutions in a Korean SUV will be pleasantly surprised. The instrument panel has an attractive design and is made of high-quality (soft) materials. It has two bright screens: 7-inch HD with information from the onboard computer and 9.2-inch multimedia. The latter, of course, is controlled by a touch screen and, in addition to radio communication and navigation functions, also shows an image from a 360-degree camera. Smartphone enthusiasts will appreciate the compatibility of multimedia with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. We do not doubt the ergonomics or roominess of the cabin. The driver’s position is comfortable, and the journey is more pleasant thanks to the seats with heating and ventilation functions.
There is enough space in both rows of seats. Dissatisfied people can only complain that the upper version of the front seats should have a massage function, and the rear ones, in turn, do not have an air conditioning control panel. However, when they look in the trunk, they forget about these drawbacks, because 784 liters are very impressive (competitors have barrels from 585 to 621 liters). This large space allows you to build a third row of seats-an an option for 4000 zlotys. An additional fee is also required for the rear door control system that uses gestures (an Elegance package for 15,500 zlotys).
4×2 on asphalt
At Rexton, the dynamics and driving style made a positive impression on us. The 181 diesel running under the hood reacted quickly to gas at low revs. It was well sound-proofed and, given the car’s large dimensions and heavyweight, had a moderate appetite for fuel (an average of 9.9 l / 100 km in tests). We also didn’t mind the 7-speed automatic, because it changed gear ratios quickly and accurately. Rexton transmits rear-wheel drive as standard. For an additional 10,000 zlotys, you can buy a 4WD version with a transmission and a hard-mounted front axle, which means that in the 4×4 configuration, we only need to move in the field …
Capacity, manageability, dynamics, quality, multimedia and security systems
We do not do as it is a 4×4 off-road drive only, without led headlights and an air conditioning system with three zones.
Ideally, only when the asphalt is dry. We are very impressed with the new Rexton. This is a well-made car, the owner of which should not have any complexes because he drives an SUV not a very popular brand. Unfortunately, the lack of 4×4 on the asphalt can become an insurmountable obstacle for many people.
