A new generation of Volvo compact cars has been announced for 2019. Soon after, the V4O will be offered as an electric vehicle. Here is the first information.
The new generation of Volvo 2020
Volvo is embarking on the electrification of its models. One of the first cars with an all-electric drive will be the next-generation V40. Next year, the Swedes plan to premiere a new compact model, and in 2020, there will be not only a hybrid version with a plug-in module but also a 400-kilometer electric car. In addition to the larger battery, the Swedish manufacturer is also planning a base model with smaller battery capacity.
Like the xc40 compact SUV already in showrooms, the next V40 was built on the new CMA platform, which is also used by the subsidiary Chinese brand Lynk & Co … This platform can accommodate conventional propulsion systems (including a soft hybrid). The Volvo V40 is likely to get 4-cylinder D3 and D4 diesel engines, a 3-cylinder T3 petrol engine, and 4-cylinder T4 and T5 petrol units.
The wheelbase of the V40 will increase by about 5 cm, at least to 2.7 m, which will provide greater freedom of movement at the leg level for passengers in the rear seats. Stylishly, the new V40 will follow in the footsteps of the well-received XC90, designed by Thomas Ingenlat, head of the brand. The front part also refers to the Studio 40.2 model, introduced in 2016. A special feature here is a narrow air intake that covers the entire width of the car, connecting the fog lights.
In our opinion,
the next version of V40 will be the first to be completely created under the leadership of China. We expect that, as with previous models from an ever-changing range, the compact Volvo will be warmly welcomed by the market.
